Your Personal Cellar by the Sea
Members’ Wine-Locker Privileges at The Resort.
One of the quiet luxuries of membership at The Resort is complimentary, climate-controlled wine storage, which allows members to keep their favorite bottles on hand without worrying about airport restrictions, tariffs, or tropical heat. The goal is simple: you should be able to enjoy the exact wine you love, whenever the mood strikes, in the company of friends who appreciate the gesture.
Why We Don’t Stock a 50,000-Bottle Cellar.
Visitors often ask why we don’t emulate the massive cellars of big-city restaurants such as one of our personal favorites, Opus in Toronto’s Yorkville district. We believe that participating in an open relationship, or celebrating the lifestyle as a couple, should not require that you lower your standards when on holiday. The more practical answer is rooted in Caribbean realities:
- Electricity in the Caribbean costs four to six times more per kilowatt-hour than in most U.S. cities, turning large-scale refrigeration into both a sustainability and cost challenge.
- Jamaica funds its government primarily through import tariffs rather than payroll or property taxes; every case of wine pays a premium at the dock.
- Logistics rarely align with variety. A bottle of St-Émilion that lands flawlessly in Aspen can take weeks to clear customs in Kingston, often arriving well past its prime drinking window.
Rather than force members to choose from a narrow, rotating list—or subsidize a cellar so broad and with labels only a few truly love—we built chilled wine lockers so you can stock your personal favorites whenever you travel.
The South Carolina Tradition That Inspired Us.
“Friends… must bring their best bottle – no hoarding allowed.”
The idea took shape after our founders swapped stories with a couple from South Carolina who received regular allocations of Sea Smoke and frequently sought out big California reds and Napa cult wines. Every few months, they gather with a group of friends for a gourmet dinner where each couple must bring their best bottle, no hoarding allowed. The ritual transforms “someday” wines into shared memories: a 2005 Château Margaux, savored at its peak elegance, paired with Charleston shrimp and grits.
We want the same spirit here. Picture arriving at your cliff-top villa, your butler decanting a treasured Brunello while the sea breeze crosses the terrace, and sharing first pours with friends who value both the gesture and the juice. The lockers make that moment possible any weekend, not just on milestone birthdays.
How To Get Started.
First, reach out to The Resort’s Member Services Team and inform them that you would like a wine locker and specify the date you plan to arrive. Next, consider acquiring a Vin Garde Valise (https://vingardevalise.com/) to transport your favorite vintages safely.
When you are ready to pop the cork, whether to enjoy with a meal or for private tastings, we can arrange Riedel stemware, Coravin access for by-the-glass sampling, or a pairing menu with our executive chef or visiting guest chefs.
From the Brim to The Dreggs
“Great wine has a way of turning any sunset into the right occasion.”
As Frank Sinatra croons in It Was a Very Good Year, the finest bottles are meant to be enjoyed “from the brim to the dregs.” At The Resort we take that lyric to heart: whether you decant a venerable Pauillac or a straightforward Sonoma Chardonnay, we want every drop shared in good company. Great wine has a way of turning any sunset into the right occasion—so stock your personal locker, cue Old Blue Eyes, Rod Stewart, or Robbie Williams on the terrace speaker, and raise a glass while the Caribbean sky blushes into night.
